assessment and intervention for written
language (reading and writing), especially
as many states are passing dyslexia laws
and school eligibility criteria for S/LI
and LD are in flux. Presenters will review
current scientific evidence about oral and
written language disorders, including
but not limited to dyslexia, and SLP roles
in identification and intervention for
students with varied phonological and
nonphonological language strengths
and needs.

comprehensions skill can be taught and
assessed with the same early reading
materials students use to practice
reading. Learn Common Core aligned
strategies to explicitly and systematically
teach emergent and beginning
readers to analyze illustrations and text
to independently make inferences.
Participants will practice an intervention
and progress‑monitoring assessment
approach that facilitates critical narrative
language skills and academic language.
Resources for implementation will
be shared and connections to the
CCSS explained.

regional developmental disabilities needs
assessment of Kansas tribal communities,
which evaluated service delivery models
and disability resource availability.
This presentation will highlight the use
of community forums, focus groups,
and community member interviews to
evaluate the experiences of families
and community members. This project
included community activities to educate
American Indian families on special
education law, advocacy, cultural identity,
prevention strategies, environmental
health, and child development.

adults are experiencing a shift toward
a greater percentage of clients with
medical complexities. These patients
often have multiple medical diagnoses
and polypharmacy that contribute to
hospital readmissions. We will examine
how physical therapists, occupational
therapists, and speech‑language
pathologists must achieve outcomes by
working as an interprofessional team
to demonstrate top‑of‑license practice
that includes understanding the role of
medications and provides medication
management techniques throughout a
continuum of care.
