Telepractice, for all of its many virtues,
is not the best fit for every student.
There are instances, however, in which
telepractice may provide a student's
only opportunity to access a licensed
SLP or other specialist. This presentation
will share 3 case studies that feature
seemingly insurmountable telepractice
barriers, creative solutions that allowed
students to receive services, and some
surprising benefits that came out of
the experiences.

Patients claim that current voice
therapies are ineffective at meeting their
voice needs, specifically voice use in
conversation. The goal of the seminar is
to introduce audiences to a new voice
therapy approach, Conversation Training
Therapy (CTT), which is based in motor
learning theories and eliminates the
therapeutic hierarchy. In CTT target
voice skills are trained in the context of
patient‑initiated conversation as the sole
therapy stimulus.

Dr. Weismer will describe the problems
children with ASD often have with
executive function. Her research focuses
on subcomponents such as inhibition,
working memory, and task shifting.
The associations between executive
function and other cognitive and
language abilities will be discussed.
Dr. Arunachalam will address lexical
development in young children with
ASD, focusing on the mechanisms by
which they acquire new words and their
meanings, and on new paradigms for
understanding their language abilities.

The goal of this seminar is to provide a
basis for conceptual understanding and
critical evaluation of field-related research
literature using Structural Equation
Modeling (SEM) and Hierarchical Linear
Modeling (HLM). After a brief review of
the foundations of SEM and HLM, we
provide an overview of the methods,
presenting examples of each approach
and encouraging interactive participation.
Finally, we present overarching
recommendations for data collection to
maximize the validity of analyses.

In an attempt to integrate course
knowledge with clinical skill
development, we created two full day
lab experiences associated with our
medical SLP curriculum. Through co‑
teaching (across Acquired Brain Injury
& Progressive Conditions courses),
lab practice, and simulated patients,
students are able to practice cognitive
interventions for a variety of targets
and conditions. We will share teaching
examples of our "spaced retrieval" and
"cognitive feeding" day labs as well as
data from student feedback.

Undergraduate coursework often
involves memorizing information to
form a solid knowledge base regarding
communication sciences and disorders.
Traditionally, students listen to lectures
and take notes. This type of engagement
does not lend to the application‑
based nature of speech‑language
pathology practice. Interactive classroom
approaches (including practical activities
to address concepts, interactive folders/
notebooks, learning checks, creative
technology‑based assignments) will
be described and modeled. Learners
will participate in activities utilized in
the presenters' classrooms throughout
this presentation.
