Many more children are surviving
premature birth and complex medical
diagnoses than in the past. Children
with Autism and genetic disorders are
being diagnosed more effectively. These
children are now in our school systems
and may have complicated special
education needs including dysphagia
and feeding issues. The school Speech
Pathologist brings expertise and training
and should take the lead in building
and maintaining a team approach
to swallowing and feeding issues in
the schools.

responsible for evaluating and treating
infant feeding and swallowing disorders
and can greatly influence breastfeeding
outcomes in patients who are identified
as having a known risk of aspiration. This
presentation will focus on assessment
and treatment techniques to reduce
aspiration risk at the breast and will
highlight how to overcome obstacles to
breast‑feeding in special populations
including children with congenital heart
disease, botulism, and cleft lip/palate.

This presentation will describe two
teleaudiology models used to provide
follow‑up services 1) follow‑up support
for parents of children who pass their
newborn hearing screening but have
risk indicators present for delayed‑onset
hearing loss, and 2) follow‑up support
after an initial hearing aid fitting. Overall
outcomes of the two studies including
feasibility outcomes and results of
satisfaction surveys completed by
participants, graduate clinicians, and
hearing health providers will be reviewed.

SLPs specializing in voice intervention
regularly confront, but rarely formalize,
profound questions about the mind‑
body relationship. Cognitive science
answers some of these questions from
a perspective that is philosophically
transformative, supported by neuro‑
physiological research, and surprisingly
congruent with some vocal arts
pedagogies. This overview of cognitive
science will summarize brain‑mind‑body
findings relevant to the process of vocal
change, leading to suggestions for verbal
and nonverbal cueing strategies, self‑care
for clinicians, improved outcomes, and
future investigation.

High resolution manometry has become
a routine standard of care procedure. It
provides valuable objective information
regarding swallowing pressures that
guides intervention and allows for
measureable outcomes. This has
proven to be especially beneficial in
cases of complex dysphagia when
imaging assessments alone may not
provide a complete profile of the
patient's swallowing physiology. This
session will provide case examples that
demonstrate dysphagia evaluation and
management enhanced by the usage of
pharyngeal manometry.
