I am a problem-solver, so the complex challenges presented by my clients keep me on my toes and require me to maintain a lifelong learner mentality. I also love working with children. Their earnestness and natural curiosity are a breath of fresh air. How do ASHA Professional Devleopment (APD) courses help you with challenges at work? Serving children with autism continues to be one of my greatest challenges. APD targets the needs of this population by utilizing its greatest asset: its people. Presenters are leaders in this area to ensure SLPs are exposed to the most current research and clinical practices. These workshops and CE events have been transformative for me. How have APD courses helped you stay on top of your game? After a course, I hope to walk away with at least one "nugget." After recent APD sessions on autism, I came away with much more. How have APD courses helped you make a difference? APD courses provided helpful verbiage that I have adopted in treatment sessions for my clients who stutter. The presenters gave practical strategies and insights through clinical experience, which I have been able to implement with clients as well as their families. How to do you relax? I love to read and eat, and eat and read. I enjoy playing hide-and-seek with my children and other games (such as Nerf wars).https://www.asha.org/eweb/olsdynamicpage.aspx?title=social+and+academic+success+for+children+with+asd&webcode=olsdetails
