When did you know you wanted to be an SLP?
When I realized that not very many people knew much about our profession,
and how our work can contribute so much to those with communication needs,
especially the Vietnamese communities around the U.S., where access to
resources [is] limited. Many Vietnamese children (as well as other children who
are bilingual speakers) fall between cracks. I hope to work toward filling in the
gaps where I can.
What do you love most about your job?
Being able to work with diverse professionals and families to better my
clients' overall communication abilities and so helping others become better
communicators and learners. Additionally, being able to build that lasting
relationship with my clients and their families.
How do ASHA Professional Development (APD) courses help you tackle your
professional challenges?
It is a challenge to keep current with my research and evidence-based practice.
It is vital to have up-to-date information, as it drives my decisions in clinical
treatment as well as the well-being of my clients. APD courses are presented by
top practicing clinicians as well as top researchers in the discipline so I know
that the information I am getting is legitimate and trustworthy, and I can tailor it
to my client's needs.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends,
exploring different places, watching cooking shows, cooking, rock
climbing, and organizing/laminating my speech-language pathology materials.
