Evaporative Coolers with Dry Capability
Broaden the Mechanical Landscape
As manufacturing and process applications expand, owners of aging facilities
are faced with a challenge-how to meet
these demands within realistic budget
parameters.
Two of the largest budget items for facility
managers-reducing energy use and water
consumption-also adds to the burden.
Some municipalities have even set water
use restrictions for plants, further complicating the issue.
Evaporative solutions
Fortunately, the engineers at EVAPCO

Recently, owners of a commercial building in Philadelphia completed renovations
of the facility, but did not upgrade the
four, 250-ton forced draft cooling towers.
As a result of this retrofit, they saw a
steady decline in energy performance and
sharp increases in water costs.

For this project, local contractor Urban
Engineering worked with EVAPCO to install two eco-ATWB-E induced draft,
closed circuit coolers, controls to optimize
operation of the entire mechanical system,
and water treatment.

Enter EVAPCO's new eco-ATWB hybrid
closed-circuit coolers. The eco-ATWB
technology provides simultaneous wet/
dry operation, allowing a portion of the
heat load to be rejected through both
evaporative cooling and dry cooling,
even at high ambient temperatures -
while also reducing water make-up and
chemical consumption.

efficiency, reducing annual water consumption substantially, while improving

Project Manager David Parmiter has
learned from facility managers that the
systems have saved nearly $25,000/year in
electrical costs alone.
Data also shows that facility owners have
saved an average of 96,260 gallons of
water each month, resulting in a 24 percent savings in water use and cost.
