The principal justification of this project is to ensure that the hygrothermal material
properties in the ASHRAE Handbook - Fundamentals continue to be representative of
the materials currently in the market and relevant to the conditions to which they are
exposed. Asphalt shingle roof systems are the most commonly used for residential

The overall task is to develop a method of testing the equilibrium hydrogen fluoride
capacity of desiccants and use the method to determine the equilibrium hydrogen
fluoride capacity of molecular sieve and activated alumina desiccants at the conditions specified in the scope section of this WS. Since hydrogen fluoride is a potentially
dangerous chemical, it is paramount that the contractor fully understands the hazards
involved in working with it. The contractor shall, in the proposal, identify in detail the
measures to be taken to reduce hazards through use of proper Personal Protective
Equipment, laboratory facilities, and procedures. In the selection process weight will
be given based on the quality of safety measures.

The Environmental Health and Safety professionals, laboratory designers and other
ASHRAE Members need reliable gaseous contaminant transfer data measurements
methodologies to complete the necessary risk assessment when evaluating energy
recovery systems for their laboratory ventilation projects. Technologies shown to limit
contaminant transfer would allow greater energy savings and reduce the carbon footprint.

TC 3.3, Refrigerant Contaminant Control

ASHRAE continues to support and facilitate global efforts to reduce the detrimental
effects of global warming. ASHRAE does this by supporting research that support the
use of new low GWP refrigerants. The proposed research herein enables the AC&R
systems using these low GWP refrigerants to perform effectively, efficiently, and reliably. In addition, proper contamination control of moisture can extend the effective life
and reduce repair costs of a system making them a financial success for the building

limits based on technically sound toxicity criteria for HVACR products will increase the
safety understanding of refrigeration-based products; facilitate the adoption of lower

TC 5.5, Air-to-Air Energy Recovery

The proposed research will increase the utility of ASHAE Standard 84 by validating its applicability to large exchangers over a broad range of conditions. Air-to-air
energy recovery is an important tool for reducing energy consumption in buildings
and is now required in ASHRAE standard 90.1-2013 in defined circumstances. The
proposed research will support further use of air-to-air energy recovery in Standard
90.1, helping to meet the ongoing goals for reduced energy consumption in new and
