Sustainability Statement: This issue is printed with non-toxic ink, sustainably sourced paper at a 90% carbon-free printing facility that uses hydroelectric, solar
and wind power. Over 99% of pollutants typically released into the atmosphere during the printing process are removed in the manufacture of this issue.

Dehumidification Explained
W
hen I started as editor of ASHRAE Journal in June
2023, I started making some LinkedIn connections and
following some key HVAC&R industry subject matter
experts.
Immediately, people were sharing the thoughts of David
Drew Champlin
Schurk, P.E., Life Member ASHRAE, and Allison Bailes
III, Ph.D., Member ASHRAE. I found out how respected they were in this
industry due to how many people were commenting on their posts. I kept
their names in the back of my mind for content, especially for an episode
of ASHRAE Journal Podcast.
Sure enough, we made that happen. In the featured ASHRAE Journal
Podcast episode, Schurk and Bailes talk about dehumidifi cation in
residential and commercial buildings. Th ey discuss dehumidifi cation
needs in various climates and weather conditions as well as the diff erences
between dehumidifying commercial, residential, industrial and healthcare
settings.
Th e episode had more than 400 plays over the fi rst weekend it was
released. Search for ASHRAE Journal Podcast on your favorite podcast
platform and subscribe. Do the same for Hot Air, which features a brief
interview with an author in the current month's Journal.
Th e 2024 ASHRAE Decarbonization Conference: Decarbonizing
Existing Tall Buildings is coming up Oct. 21 - 23 in New York City. I look
forward to attending this conference and connecting with ASHRAE
members. It gets started with a keynote titled " Lessons from New York
City's Building Decarbonization Policies for Other Global Cities. " Th e
program also features more sessions on decarbonization in action.
Make sure you visit the conferences tab at ASHRAE.org, view the
technical program and register.
Our 2025 editorial calendar is set. We're hoping to get articles related to
refrigerants, decarbonization, healthy buildings, hydronics, data centers
and more as we look to fi ll the early to middle parts of 2025 Journal issues.
Are you interested in writing a technical article of up to 3,000 words? It
certainly can be fewer if the information can be conveyed in that manner.
