criteria and requirements to ASHRAE's current design, construction and operational and maintenance
practices.
The MTG has divided the work between four Task
Groups.
Task Group 1 (TG1) task is collecting deﬁnitions of
health and wellness from different organizations
including the World Health Organization (WHO).
These deﬁnitions need to have measurable criteria
that engineers and others can use to determine if the
ventilation in a building is effective. The intent is to
ﬁnd and agree on a workable deﬁnition of health and
wellness.
Task Group 2 (TG2) will determine the impact of
ASHRAE's vision, positions, publications and work on
the topic of health and wellness. The intent is then to
determine the gaps in its body of work on health and
wellness and how to address such gaps.
Task Group 3 (TG3) will lay out how the work of this
MTG can be communicated to fulﬁll the objectives of
this MTG.
Task Group 4 (TG4) will evaluate how organizations,
particularly those involved in the high performance
building rating systems, deﬁne and measure health and
wellness in the built environment; how do these deﬁnitions mesh with the deﬁnition from TG1; and how the
work from ASHRAE can be used to complement these
rating systems.
The outcome from the MTG will be an ASHRAE position document on the topic of health and wellness in
the built environment. The document will support
the Society's mission and vision. Any recommendations from the MTG are intended to be transferred to
ASHRAE's Environmental Health Committee (EHC) to be
implemented in the future.
The MTG meets at ASHRAE's winter and annual conferences, typically on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. The
full committee also meets via conference calls during
the year, while the task groups meet via conference calls
on a more regular basis.
The MTG is looking for volunteers to participate in this
endeavor. The requirements below apply:
* Only one person from each TC/TG/TRG or non-TC
group participating in MTG may serve as voting member.
* The chairs or leaders of participating TC/TG/TRGs
or non-TC groups will designate the MTG member to

represent their group with a vote on the MTG.
* Alternate members are nominated by the MTG
chair, and there are no restrictions on the number or
afﬁliations of nominees
* Alternate members are expected to participate in
MTG activities and attend meetings when possible.
* An alternate member normally has no right to vote
at the MTG level, but can vote at the subcommittee
level.
* An alternate member may be given proxy authority, however, by an MTG voting member to vote in his or
her absence so that groups participating in the MTG are
always represented in an MTG vote.
