Getting Young Members
Involved in ASHRAE
A
few months ago, Erica Powell, Associate Member
ASHRAE, reached out with a podcast idea.
As a young ASHRAE member, she was fi nding it diffi cult
knowing how else to get involved at the Society level and
wanted to learn more about paths to a leadership position. There were
other questions ASHRAE newcomers might have, such as how to join a
technical committee or tips on conference travel.
Erica soon found herself as the host of the March ASHRAE Journal Podcast
Drew Champlin
episode where she was able to ask these questions of two high-standing
veteran ASHRAE members in Billy Austin, P.E., BCxP, BEAP, BEMP, CHD,
HBDP, HFDP, OPMP, Fellow ASHRAE, and Sarah Maston, P.E., Member
ASHRAE, BCXP.
The trio did a great job. If you need some advice on how to get more
involved within ASHRAE, this podcast is a great starting point. Hopefully it
helps anyone who may be attending their fi rst ASHRAE Annual Conference
this summer in Indianapolis.
I have only been the editor of ASHRAE Journal for 10 months, so it also
helped me understand some ins and outs of ASHRAE from the member
perspective. Hopefully you are subscribing to ASHRAE Journal Podcast, as
well as Hot Air, on your favorite podcast platform. Use the QR code on the
Contents page of this issue to listen to the March podcast.
In this issue, our cover article begins on page 26 and features a study
that calculated the response of insulation of different thicknesses
applied in two different wall types to minimize condensation in a
building in four different heat zones in Turkey. An article on the impact
of outdoor air ventilation in school corridors begins on page 38.
We had some interesting dialogue from readers on some recent
