Results
Room Pressurization Analysis
Results of total outdoor airflow and door sealing are
shown in Figure 5 (Page 17).
Contaminant Purge Analysis for Different Ventilation Strategies
Resultant Flow Field. Figure 6 shows the indoor airflow
pattern produced by the different ventilation strategies,
at middle-plane section (Y = 2; X = 3).
Comparison Between CONTAM-CFD and
Commercial Software. Figure 7 shows the MV scenario:
resultant profile for one of the tested positions located
at the middle plane, between the wall and the operation
table (x = 5.4 m [17.7 ft]).
Figure 8 shows the resultant flow pattern for the UD
case at the middle plane, calculated by the commercial
software with a mesh of 2,431,276 elements.
Therefore, the selected mesh for the CONTAM-CFD
simulation was considered suitable enough to represent
the general flow features of the studied solution, given
the relatively good agreement, by comparison of airflow

patterns from Figures 8 and 6d for the UD scenario, and
by Figure 7 for the MV scenario.
Results of Transient Concentrations: The results are
depicted in Figures 9 and 10. The relative dose is 0.34% for
the UD design when compared with the MV design.
Parametric Test of the Supply Air Velocity on the Contaminant Purging
Performance for the UD Design
The results of the relative dose of each scenario are
depicted in Figure 11. The resultant Archimedes number
(Ar), a non-dimensional parameter that relates the ratio
of buoyant to inertial forces, is also presented for each
scenario.
