uring the President's Luncheon at the 2020 Winter
Meeting in Orlando, Florida, 2018-19 RP Chair Derek
Crowe had the honor of thanking major donors to the RP
Campaign. Golden Circle ($10,000+), Platinum Circle
($20,000+), and Benefactor ($30,000+) donors were
recognized for their crucial roles in the success of the RP
Campaign.
Among the Benefactor donors was Trane, recognized for a
landmark 30 years of giving to ASHRAE! Trane achieved
this giving by pioneering a Matching Gift Program unlike any
other, matching every corporate employee's gift to ASHRAE
for three decades and counting. Trane continues to match
corporate employee gifts each year, matching 89 gifts to the
2020-21 campaign. Their cumulative gifts over the decades
total more than $800,000.
Many companies have Matching Gift Programs that boost
employee giving to nonprofi t organizations. Few have a
longstanding relationship like that of Trane and ASHRAE.
Over the past three decades, the critical role that ASHRAE
plays in the HVAC&R industry has been supported by
Trane's signifi cant contributions.
What is a Matching Gift Program?
Matching Gift Programs allow employees to double or
sometimes even triple their philanthropic gifts. Under a
Matching Gift Program, when an employee donates to a
nonprofi t, their employer will match the donated amount.
Employers sponsor Matching Gift Programs to encourage

employees to make gifts to nonprofi t organizations important
to them. Typically, this is a dollar-for-dollar match, or 1:1
ratio--if an employee donates $500, the company with a 1:1
matching ratio would also donate $500. Some employers
match at higher ratios, like 2:1 or even 3:1.
There is typically a minimum and maximum match amount.
Many Matching Gift Programs also require donors to submit
their gifts through an online portal to be eligible for matching.
Details on Matching Gift Programs vary from company to
company, so be sure to check the rules for your own
company's program. There might be restrictions for gifts
made by part-time or retired employees, or spouses of
employees. There also may be rules on the types of nonprofits
that are supported, so check the guidelines carefully.

Matching Gift Programs only work when used. It's an easy
way to increase your support of ASHRAE.

America, Johnson Controls, Lennox, Emerson, and Carrier
Corp. And it's not limited to the HVAC&R fi eld--all types of
companies have Matching Gift Programs. Contact your
