AMCA grows in Asia
AMCA has always had a following in Asia, where
the credibility of third-party certification has been
highly valued in the marketplace. AMCA certification
is respected by OEMs and air system designers, who recognize
AMCA certification as the “passport to export.” To better serve
AMCA members in Asia, Asia AMCA was formed on Jan. 1,
2012, with a local testing laboratory and staffing
to administer the AMCA Certified Ratings
Program in Asia Region (from India to
Australia). Asia participation in the
AMCA Certified Ratings program is now
growing at an annual rate of 25%.
Asia represents the fastest growing region
of AMCA. There were 57 members located in
Asia in 2007. As of June 2013, there are now 111 AMCA members from Asia. This strong growth is reflected particularly in
China, India, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Exploration into the Vietnam territory is beginning to bear fruit
with the increased awareness of AMCA. Two new members
joined the AMCA family in the second quarter of 2013, with a
third expected later this year.
Asia AMCA damper test accreditation
Recently, Asia AMCA’s laboratory has been accredited to perform
damper pressure drop and leakage tests. This allows Asia AMCA
to extend its testing services to cover damper tests in accordance
with AMCA 500-D. For more information on the laboratory

Standards and requirements
in the HVAC industry
Asia AMCA strives for cooperation and participation with local
code and regulatory authorities that establish energy codes. In
2012, Asia AMCA visited CNIS (China National Institute of
Standardization). AMCA International laboratories are now
listed as an authorized lab to certify compliance with China’s
Energy Grade for Fans.
Fan efficiency grades
The AMCA Product Rating Manual for Fan Air Performance
(Publication 211-05 [Rev.3/11]) has been revised to include
requirements for certifying fan efficiency grades (FEGs). It
includes the check test tolerance for power, and clarifies how
the check test tolerance is calculated in the absence of a catalogued free delivery airflow rate. This has provided a great
benefit to the manufacturers in the Asia region. Currently,
Malaysia, Korea, and Taiwan have considered adopting FEGs
as a mandatory requirement for government and private-sector
projects.

Launch of Asia’s
Engineer Associates program
AMCA International’s board has given the green light to Asia
AMCA to establish a much-sought-after program for engineer
associates. This program will give AMCA certified ratings a
great boost in Asia. It aims to invite design and consulting
engineers to become AMCA Engineer Associates as an honor
for those who commit their support to AMCA
certified ratings and to become part of the
AMCA family.
Annual regional meeting
Asia AMCA will continue to hold its annual
regional event in different countries of Asia.
The first meeting was held in Singapore in
2011, the second in Shanghai in 2012, and the
third in Malaysia in 2013. The location of the 2014 Asia regional
meeting will be determined by voting Asia AMCA members.
Marketing committee
An Asia AMCA marketing committee was established at the
2011 meeting in Singapore to discuss and update Asia AMCA
members on regional market conditions, codes and standards
activities, and opportunities for growing our businesses. Regular
meetings are conducted bimonthly to ensure marketing and
promotional activities are sufficiently planned and executed for
the region.
Technical committees
Asia AMCA understands that it has needs for testing standards
and certified ratings that are not currently available from AMCA
International. A technical committee has been set up to customize standards for local needs. For example, standards are being
developed for jet fan velocity profiles and site measurement for
fan performance. The Asia AMCA technical committee is also
working with similar AMCA groups in Europe and North America
to develop a “wire-to-gas” performance standard that can be
used worldwide. The intent is to improve upon the ISO 12759
standard, which is normalized with AMCA 205 on FEGs but
includes penalties and bonuses to accommodate “wire-to-gas”
variability. AMCA is collaborating worldwide to develop a more
accurate and objective approach.
AMCA members in Asia are encouraged to develop and contribute to the certification standards that serve the local region.
Standards developed or supported by Asia AMCA will become
international AMCA standards—AMCA does not want to propagate regional standards. Quite the opposite, AMCA is dedicated
to the goal of truly international standards that are developed
with broad regional participation.
