The talent and dedication of ASHRAE members give the Society its
strength. This was demonstrated during the recent renovation of
ASHRAE's new global headquarters building. Thanks to the eﬀorts of a
team of volunteers, donors and industry partners, the new headquarters
showcases integrated building solutions and sustainability in action.
The state-of-the-art, high-performing net-zero-energy global headquarters
building is now a destination venue for members and industry representatives, visiting from around the world, who are looking to experience
cutting-edge engineering and architectural innovations.

The Vision

ASHRAE began renovations in January 2020 on an existing 66,700 ft2
building. The building, originally built in 1978, is on 11 acres of land in
Peachtree Corners, about 20 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. The
location was selected due in part to Peachtree Corners' dedication to
sustainability, which ﬁts perfectly with ASHRAE's vision of " a healthy
and sustainable built environment for all. "

Very early in the planning process, ASHRAE established the Building
Ad-Hoc Committee and the Technical Advisory Subcommittee (TASC)
comprised of dedicated ASHRAE volunteers. The charge of these
committees was to oversee the renovation project by creating goals
for the built environment and ensuring that these goals were reached.
In keeping with the goal of a healthy workplace, the well-being of the
building's future occupants was taken into careful consideration. Prior to
the COVID-19 pandemic, ASHRAE had already planned to provide 30%
more outdoor air to the building than the required minimum ventilation
rates from ASHRAE Standard 62.1 - Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor
Air Quality, and will implement other applicable guidance that has been
developed by the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force (ETF) for commercial
oﬃce buildings.
