the appropriate action. This intelligent reception
also extends to deliveries, where parcels being
delivered can be dropped at a secure location,
and the employee is notiﬁed via a message that
it has arrived without the reception staﬀ having to
take time out to sign for and store the delivery.
In the future, this can be extended to providing
visitors, or even employees, with wayﬁnding
services, guiding them to the person they are
looking for or the meeting room they need to be
in, without the need for unnecessary interactions.
Employees can also ﬁnd an available place to work
immediately, and their communications are routed
to wherever they are.

Next-Generation Meetings
For the ASHRAE headquarters, we deployed our
next-generation meetings solution. This provides
them with a frictionless environment for booking
and running meetings, enabling the ASHRAE team
to work seamlessly together.

The key to creating a truly modern workplace, one
that accelerates teamwork and creates meaningful
experiences, is providing technology that doesn't
distract from what people want to achieve. To
create this, we worked with ASHRAE to identify
the diﬀerent user personas and map out their
employee experience journey. By ﬁrst understanding what they needed to achieve, it's possible to
create a seamless user experience. The intelligent
workplace we helped them create does this on
many levels, starting when people ﬁrst arrive at
their headquarters.

Intelligent from the Time You Walk in the Door
Working with our partners Cisco and PlaceOS we
created a reception experience that minimizes the
time a visitor has to wait in reception, automatically
notifying employees when their visitors arrive
- what we call a frictionless experience. The
ﬂexibility of the system also means it can be easily
updated to comply with evolving health and safety
regulations, including allowing visitors to complete
a COVID-19 screening questionnaire. This also
allows ASHRAE to quickly notify any visitors if they
might have been exposed, allowing them to take

They can simply and easily identify the best
meeting space for their needs, including capacity,
with the required facilities. All attendees are then
notiﬁed of the location and visitor invites are sent.
An intelligent panel outside every meeting room
allows people to see when a meeting has been
booked. When attendees arrive, they're able to
start videoconferencing with a single touch rather
than having to manually dial into the meeting.
ASHRAE's meeting rooms leverage Cisco Webex
to create a simple and easy-to-use environment,
including video conferencing capabilities where
they're needed.
The system is also able to monitor the number of
people in the room and ensure that the environment controls are appropriately set, including
controlling airﬂow, to ensure health and safety
regulations are complied with.

The Building's Nervous System
Underlying all this technology is the network.
Leveraging the power of Cisco Meraki technology,
we built an intelligent network for ASHRAE that
ensures all parts of the building can communicate
with each other and people can stay connected
