food display entry wall
covering, and lighted steel

sequences of color matched
Walnut veneer and high
density MDF with a metallic
paint and clear acrylic topcoat
were used.

" We like to have wood
elements in our higher-end
spaces as it provides a more
luxurious feel and due to
the custom nature it can be
molded to fit different spaces
and different functions, "
says Churchill Downs' Chris
Galopin. " In Homestretch we
utilized the custom wood
wall at the main entry to the
club. We also have custom
baffles and column and
beam enclosures installed
throughout the club. "
The 95-foot-long central
bar which had an intricate
rose pattern facing, is
the most intricate and
challenging part of the
project, says Haus. " The back
bar portion of the central bar
consisted of arched wood
wall structures and lighted
free-floating shelves. We
provided assistance in the
design of the rose panel bar
facing. It was a challenge
to come up with something
that had the desired pattern,
depth, durability and color
that met the intent. It also
needed to be something
that could be fabricated in
a time frame that would
meet the schedule. A fullscale
mockup of the facing
was provided. This allowed
the design team to make a
timely approval decision. "
Galopin says the main
entry wood wall is the most
noteworthy of the project. " It
has an extremely customized
feel, and it is not something
typically seen. "
