About the Agency
Founded in 2008 by Bob Ashton,
AFG Brokerage was established to
help agents and producers help their
customers. Bob has been working
in the life insurance industry since
1971. Today, he runs AFG Brokerage
with his three sons: Tony, CEO,
Stephen, VP, and Todd, CFO. Bob and
all three of his sons are MDRT Top of
the Table producers.
AFG Brokerage is driven by five
core values: Family, Empowerment, Legacy, Learning, and Excellence. With a total of 8 employees,
the agency is committed to helping producers grow and sustain
their businesses.
What makes your agency
unique? How is it different
from others offering the
same services?
I think what makes our brokerage
unique is that all our owners are
also personal producers. We own
another company where we have
personal production, as well. We
felt the industry was lacking agent
training and more hands-on assistance to agents. We're taking ideas
that we're personally using in our
own private practice and showing
that to the agent: how we write
business, how we process it, etc.
The four owners are all high-level
producers and Top of the Table
members of MDRT.
Unlike the typical brokerage, we
offer more holistic planning. We're
focused on helping agents determine which products to sell and
why. The agents send us situations,
and we show them how to package
it and how to make the situation fit

for each individual client. Another
thing that makes us unique is that
we're family owned and operated, so
we have a deep devotion to family.
We market to people who have those
same values.
What type of customer are you
trying to attract?
We're trying to attract agents who
value our packaging and marketing.
We're looking for people who want
to stretch themselves and learn new
ideas and strategies.
Where do you see your agency
in the next 10 years?
Our 10-year plan is to grow by 20
percent a year, and we've been on
track with that every year since we
started. In 10 years, we expect to be
four times larger than we are now.
How does being a NAILBA
member benefit you and
your business?
We go to the meeting every year to
look for ideas, tools, and technology to help us be more efficient. It
