FACILITIES
Bishop Hall returned to its original identity as
a residence hall when it reopened in August

SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS COMPLEX

following a yearlong, $16 million renovation. The
building houses 204 students in double-occupancy
rooms; many of the residents are enrolled in the
college's honors programs. Built as a traditional
dormitory in 1958, Bishop Hall was repurposed in
the 1970s to house academic department offices
and computer labs. Due to an increase in demand
for student housing, the college decided to convert
Bishop to a living space for students. Mach
Architecture created the renovations that were
paid for through bonding by the New York
Dormitory Authority.

Buffalo State held a ceremonial ribbon-cutting
for the new $6.9 million Jacqueline Vito LoRusso
Alumni and Visitor Center on September 27.

NUTRITION EDUCATION COUNSELING CENTER

project, which began in 2009, is expected to be
complete at the beginning of 2021. The new
SAMC-a 224,000-square-foot facility spread
over three levels-will be home to the Biology,
Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Science Education,
Mathematics, and Physics departments, the Great
Lakes Center, and a state-of-the-art Whitworth
Ferguson Planetarium. Designed by Cannon
Design, the renovations are expected to cost more
than $110 million, with $35.5 million dedicated to
Phase 4. The majority of the project was paid for
out of state funds.

Buffalo State's Nutrition Education Counseling
Center (NECC) celebrated its grand opening on
February 5 in Caudell Hall. A partnership between
the Weigel Health Center and the Health,
Nutrition, and Dietetics Department, the NECC
offers individual nutrition evaluation and counseling,
group nutrition sessions, nutrition seminars,
cooking demonstrations, "dine with a dietitian,"
and grocery tours. It is open to all Buffalo State
students and is covered by the student health fee.

The 10,800-square-foot two-story facility is
located at the corner of Rockwell Road and Grant
Street, solidifying the college's Grant Street
entrance as the second main gateway to campus.
The center, which will be a gathering place for
alumni, will also serve as an information center for
campus visitors and a starting point for prospective
undergraduate students and their families embarking
on campus tours.

Buffalo State began the fourth and final phase
of construction on the Science and Mathematics
Complex (SAMC) in September. The massive
