As an institution, the university backs its commitment by putting substantial financial resources behind faculty-mentored undergraduate research. The Undergraduate Research Office promotes, supports, and funds undergraduate research in all academic areas—from the sciences to the arts—and for all committed students. More than 400 students present their research through posters and performances each year at the Student Research and Creativity Celebration. Whether it’s student teaching at one of the 40 collaborating schools in the region, conducting biology research on a fleet of ships at the Great Lakes Center, exploring painting or sculpture at the on-campus Burchfield Penney Art Center, or studying business in Amsterdam, you will learn Buffalo State’s International Education Office coordinates international study programs in Australia, Canada, England, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, and Spain as well as the venerable Siena (Italy) Program, SUNY’s first study-abroad program. The center provides guidance on choosing a major to fit your career interests and matches students and alumni with volunteer and internship opportunities. It also provides assistance with cover letters, résumés, and interviewing skills; publicizes the most up-to-date job listings; connects employers with prospective job applicants; offers advice and preparation for applying to graduate school; and much more. In a recent alumni survey, 82 percent of respondents were employed full time, and 77 percent reported finding their first job within six months of completing their degree. These real-world skills, confidence, and expertise that make Buffalo State graduates highly marketable.
