California Farmworker Foundation
Launches COVID-19 Safety Campaign
In an effort to help farmworkers stay safe and healthy through
the pandemic, the California Farmworker Foundation (CFF)
launched a campaign - La Seguridad Empieza con Usted / Safety
Starts with You - that encourages safe practices and provides
additional resources. Important messages and information are
being shared via radio ads, CFF's Facebook page and a free
hotline (661-446-4077). facebook.com/CAFarmworkerFoundation/
The campaign is an expansion of programs and services that CFF
has already implemented to keep the community safe during the
pandemic, including distributing PPE, combating food insecurity
and providing virtual medical consultations.
CFF and its executive director, Hernan Hernandez, were part of
an Aug. 6 NBC News story about farmworkers and COVID-19.
It was the first article in a new collaboration - NBC News x
Noticias Telemundo Reports - that will feature reports in English
on NBC News platforms and in Spanish for Telemundo.

Proactive COVID-19 Safety Measures

Governor Announces Housing for the
Harvest Program

A recent study of California farmworkers highlighted the negative
impacts they are experiencing from COVID-19 and what can be
done to support and protect them. The study - which included
more than 900 surveys with farmworkers in 21 counties - was a
collaboration of organizations, researchers and policy advocates.
They are urging state, county and ag industry leaders and
employers to implement several recommendations in consultation
with farmworkers and community-based organizations. A
second phase of the study is underway in California and will
further explore the social and economic effects of COVID-19 on
farmworkers, their families and communities.

Housing for the Harvest - one of the newest safeguards for
California workers - was announced on July 24 by Gov. Newsom.
The temporary hotel housing would provide a safe isolation
space for farmworkers who test positive or were exposed to
the virus, and would limit their risk of spreading COVID-19
to coworkers or family members. The program will operate
in partnership with counties and local partners in the Central
Valley, Central Coast and Imperial Valley.
