Agility Organization Compiled by Brenna Fender American Kennel Club By Sharon Anderson The end of the agility year is approaching and all the statistics are showing continual growth of the sport in the AKC. There were an amazing 2013 trials held in 2007, which is a 9.1% growth for the year. The AKC/USA World Team are still receiving many accolades for their Large Dog Team silver medal in Hamar, Norway. The Raleigh, North Carolina, AKC offices enjoyed the presentation of the silver medal trophy to John Lyons, COO of AKC, by Alison Parr from the Medium Dog Team. Jenn Crank and her Shetland Sheepdog, Guess, are still basking in the glory of medaling for two years in a row in Individual Medium. Plan to watch or participate in the next AKC World Team Tryouts to be held in Hopkins, Minnesota, on May 3 and 4, 2008. Judges Scott Chamberlain and Kathie Leggett will have their work cut out for them, judging this highly competitive event where the best in the country will vie for the honor of representing the AKC/USA in Helsinki, Finland, on September 26-28, 2008. COURTESY AKC The second AKC Agility Invitational was held in December 2007. There were 129 breeds represented from 43 states. The winners were: 8": Robin Kletke and Tigger, Papillon 12": Suzanne Birdsall and Edge, Parson Russell Terrier 16": Kim Simons and Slyder, Nova Scotia Duck Toller 20": Linda Mecklenburg and Stellar, Border Collie 24": Steven Jenks and Booster, Weimaraner Next year the AKC Agility Invitational will be held in Long Beach, California, on December 12-14, 2008. Mark your calendars now to be part of this prestigious event. Australian Shepherd Club of America By Allison Bryant There were six motions approved by the ASCA Board of Directors that will go into effect on January 1, 2008. 1. Rules clariﬁed to allow clubs to offer discount price packages 2. Rules revised concerning dogs leaving the ring on leash 3. Course design rules changed to allow for side changes at the Novice level in places other than a tunnel or A-frame 4. Gamblers changes: instead of adding 3 seconds for a serpentine in a gamble closing sequence, only add 1 or 2 seconds depending upon the class level; revised Gamblers guidelines to reﬂect that no gamble time should be greater or less than 3 seconds from the base gamble time for each level 5. Rule change in Gamblers: Opening point accumulation period in Gamblers will be reduced from 40 to 30 seconds; the required opening point minimum has been adjusted accordingly to 15/18/21 points 6. More descriptive wording of how to calculate SCT was inserted to ensure that the times are carried to the 1/100th second February 08 | Clean Run © SABY ROCHON/SPORTPHOTOGRAPHY.CA The AKC agility department is moving forward with a new project to allow online entries.This will be used ﬁrst for the AKC Agility National Championship and soon offered for all AKC agility trials.This opportunity permits all exhibitors to enter online with AKC and experience the efﬁciency of this new service. The AKC Agility National Championship is planned for Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 28-30, 2008. Many local people are helping organize this event to make it the best to date. The arena staff from the site for the Nationals is very experienced in working with dog shows and should prove an outstanding host for this opportunity to showcase the best in the U.S. I hope you have qualiﬁed and will be in Oklahoma to enjoy the festivities of a free welcome reception on Thursday to all exhibitors.We’ll have ringside seating as well as ample room for exhibitors, dogs, and spectators.
