The Judge's Debriefing By Sandra Katzen One of my favorite things to hear as a judge is "I really had fun running that course-wish I could try it again." When competitors enjoy running a course that I have designed, regardless of whether or not they qualified on it or executed every part of it perfectly, it keeps me enjoying designing courses. I like a course to have lots of fiow and yet go from what is often referred to as "highway to city" and back again-in other words, areas that are designed for all out speed vs. more technical handling sections. Having areas on course where a number of different ways to handle are implemented-depending on each handler's and dog's skills as well as individual preferences-makes judging the course interesting and fresh. The design guidelines for the 2015 Cynosports Performance Grand Prix Finals dictate quite a bit of fiow, which often translates to a very fast course. Being able to be in a good position to make critical judging calls is also paramount, both in terms of enjoying the judging experience and doing the best possible job. The course I designed for this event is shown in Figure 1.
