Handler Focus drills By Nancy Gyes I created the setup in Figure 1 to train and reward my dogs for staying close by my side in the presence of offcourse opportunities whether in their field of vision or in close proximity. I want my dogs to remain in handler focus at my side and resist ducking behind me or cutting in front of me to take an obstacle that comes into their view but is on my opposite side. I hope you enjoy doing the exercises in Figures 2 - 13 as much as I did! 20 30 40 © BRYAN HILTS/CLOUD 9 PHOTOS 10 1 D 50 50 50 10 40 30 20 40 30 50 50 50 40 40 30 30 20 20 20 40 30 20 10 10 10 10 Exercise setup 10 10 20 30 30 20 40 40 50 50 4 3 2 4 3 2 6 5 2 2 4 1 5 7 6 1 3 Handling ideas #2 to #3: - Wrap #2 then front cross and rear cross the tunnel - Post turn at #2 with your dog on your left Handling ideas #2 to #3: - Lead-out pivot or front cross from position shown - Dog on left for #1 to #2 then rear cross #3 Handling ideas #4 to #6: - Serpentine with dog on your left - Front cross #4 to #5 and pull to #6 Handling ideas #4 to #6: - Serpentine with dog on your right - Front cross #5 to #6 and pull to #7 February 16 | Clean Run 4 5 3 1 Handling ideas #3 to #5: - Front cross #3 to #4 then threadle to #5 - Serpentine #3 to #4 then push through to #5 with dog on your left - Serpentine #3 to #4 then push through and immediately front cross to #5 as shown 47
