5 6 7 2 3 2 2 3 1 1 1 Practice starting with your dog on both sides. Begin in the middle of the pattern. Move with your dog as he takes jumps #1 and #2. Now place your dog at the first jump and practice from both sides. Angle the first jump and repeat the exercise. 8 9 4 10 3 3 3 2 2 2 1 1 1 Now turn the third jump so that it's on an angle and repeat the exercise from both sides. Add a fourth jump once your dog is comfortable with bouncing through the line of three jumps. Increase the distance between the jumps as well as the angle of the jumps. This is also the way I begin teaching a straight-line serpentine. In Figures 11 through 15, I combined the Z patterns for a setup my husband named “Dos Equis” (double X). It is a fun, symmetrical setup for working front and rear crosses as well as star pattern drills. Look back at O drills in CR June 2006 for exercises on the star pattern to do as long as you have the stars (circle or X pattern) set up. Have fun perfecting your dog’s angled jumping with Zs. 11 D Once you have perfected the Z drills, set up this double row of angled jumps called "Dos Equis." 12 2 1 RC 6 5 13 2 1 FC 6 5 RC 8 7 3 4 7 8 3 4 Start with your dog on your left side. Do a rear cross from #2 to #3 and do another rear cross from #6 to #7. Repeat the drill but lead out far enough to put in a front cross from #2 to #3. Do another front cross from #6 to #7.
