Some handlers stayed on the inside of the 270, supported the dog around the turn, and executed a front cross on the landing side of jump #8 (dark blue line). Other handlers ran between #7 and #8 and executed a front cross on the approach side of jump #8 (light blue line). Both approaches worked equally well on the 270. On both courses, especially for the Maxi dogs, the approach to the dogwalk had to be managed because of the tight 90° turn. Dogs landing past the approach to the dogwalk from the tire had to check their stride to get a good approach to the dogwalk. Many of the Maxi dog handlers paused or used a reverse ﬂow pivot (RFP) to aid the approach to the dogwalk. The turn from the dogwalk to the weaves also needed to be managed. Handlers were pushing for speed and with the weave poles set at 90° from the dogwalk and a potential off-course at jump #20, handlers tended to pull the dog off the side of the ramp, resulting in a few missed down contact zones. The serpentine combo (#11A, B, C for Mini/Midi dogs and #13A, B, C for Maxi dogs) was handled the same for all dogs. The handlers ran between A and B, did a front cross, and pushed the dog over the B jump and into the C tunnel while they hustled to get in a landing-side front cross 3 1 at the jump after the tunnel (#12 for the Mini/Midi dog and #14 for the Maxi dogs). Most dogs were extremely tight to the handlers during this sequence. The dogs that went wide while they were wrapping toward jump #13 did so as a result of handlers taking their eyes off their dog.
