Do not wait until your dog has taken the first jump before moving. Exercise 2d – Add a third jump and practice this setup with two handling options: Option A: No side change Option B: Front cross around the wing of #3 a. Keep your dog on your same side as he jumps #3 as shown in Figure 9. b. Change sides and execute a front cross at the wing of jump #3 as shown in Figure 10. Exercise 3a – Forward send with handler on takeoff side of jump As he lifts for the jump turn away from the jump and run in the opposite direction. Reward your dog by either playing tug at your side or throw your toy forward and play. Exercise 3b – As your dog starts to collect and turn tight around the jump and race out of the turn, change the profile of the jump by rotating it toward the direction of the turn, until the jump has a vertical presentation to the dog. As you rotate the jump, set your dog slightly to the side of the jump so Sit your dog approximately 10' from a jump so that he is perpendicular to the jump. Release your dog with his verbal release cue and Jump cue. Take a small step forward to the jump, using your inside arm, and keep your shoulders facing the jump. See Figure 11.
