When two or more direction changes, both in the same direction, are needed, always put the front cross on the latter turn. There is a straight line from #1-#2, a right turn from #2#3, and a right turn from #3-#4. So, the front cross goes between #3-#4. The handler keeps the dog on the left arm through commitment. At that point, she changes arms from left to right and rotates into the dog. The correct positional cue is at the left wing of #4 (red). The front cross occurs between #3 and #4. The dog received his initial turning information through the lateral send at #2. The path the handler takes out of the send cues the degree of turn (this will be covered in CR August 2009). The handler moves to the landing side of #3 with her shoulders rotated into the dog and uses a blend of inside and outside arms to be in a recall presentation as the dog commits to #3. The front cross occurs between #3 and #4. The correct positional cue is close to the wing of #4 (green). The handler decelerates into this position. She is facing forward using the arm closest to the dog (left) until the dog’s commitment/takeoff at jump #3. The handler uses the standard cue combination for true collection: no motion, shoulders facing dog, landing-side location, direct eye contact, right arm, and dog’s name. A shorter striding dog could be handled as in Figure 6b.
