12 Weave
Poles in 3-Pole

These plans are for building a set of 12 weave
poles that are constructed in 4 sections of 3 poles
each. The spacing of the poles is 22". You can use
either 3/4" or 1/2" schedule 40 PVC pipe and
fittings for these plans, but 3/4" is standard for
competition and most suitable for large and "hardweaving" dogs. The cost estimate for building
these poles from 3/4" PVC, based on the Lowe's
store in Raleigh, North Carolina, is $40.

Materials
* 20 - PVC tees

* PVC cutter or hacksaw (buy or borrow the PVC cutters: it's much easier because of
the number of cuts necessary for this project. Lowe's has them for under $15.)

* 7 - 10' long sections of
PVC pipe

* An area large enough to lay out 10' sections of PVC (if you have a big enough table
for the 10' sections you can do it there, otherwise the floor works best so you're not
cutting at an angle.)

* 28 - PVC end caps
(optional: looks neater with
the end caps but they are not
necessary for function)

Instructions
It's important to follow these steps in order. They are set up to use the smallest amount
of PVC pipe possible so there is little waste, monetarily or otherwise.

* Colored electrical tape
* PVC glue (optional)
Note: If you want to be able to
disassemble the weave poles for
easier storage, glue the joints
of the base together, but do not
glue the weave poles in place.
If you want to leave the weave
poles permanently assembled,
glue all joints. The weave poles
will be more stable if they are
glued. Alternatively, you don't
have to glue any joints. In this
case, you will need to firmly push
the sections together when assembling the poles, otherwise
the PVC sections can rotate within the tee joints.

Tools
* Measuring tape

1. Take 4 of the 10' lengths of PVC pipe and
cut them into 36"-long pieces for the weave
poles. You will get 3 poles from each 10'
PVC section, a total of 12 poles. Set these
pieces aside or label immediately so they
don't get mixed up with other PVC pieces
(it's very easy to do!). Take the 4 leftover
12"-long pieces and set them aside and/or
label. You need to save these for step 4.
2. Take 2 of the 10' lengths of PVC pipe and cut them into 8 pieces that are 22" long
for the spacers. Cut 5 spacers from one 10' PVC section and then 3 spacers from
the other. This will leave you with a 4.5' piece of pipe. Set it aside with the pieces
left over from step 1.
3. Take 1 of the 10' lengths of PVC pipe and cut into 8 pieces that are 9.5" long for
the spacers.
4. Take the 4 leftover 12"-long pieces from step 1 and cut them down to 9.5" in length.
Then take the 4.5' piece left over from step 2 and cut it into 4 pieces that are 9.5" in
length. You will now have 8 pieces that are 9.5" long. Set them aside and/or label.
5. Take the last of the 10' lengths of PVC pipe and cut into 16 pieces that are 7" long
for the bases.
