For those handlers who were able to make the front cross, it worked beautifully. Add a smooth rear cross to jump #12, and you’ve conquered that part! As illustrated in Figure 3, this maneuver also showed the dogs where they were expected to go Most of my courses that weekend seemed to have a fast, ﬂowing ending. This course was no exception. Figure 4 shows how most handled it. A rear cross on the landing side of jump #15 resulted in some wide turns, but most got through it. Another option was to do a front cross after the chute as shown in Figure 5. Those that did a decent front cross gained a really nice line to #16. However, those who ended up doing a “butt-shot” (bent over) front cross, with their entire posterior pointing to the tire, encouraged their dogs to happily take the off-course tire. Surprisingly, not one dog took the A-frame. Unfortunately, the results were not what I expected. I’ve noticed a lot when I’m judging that my Q-rate seems a lot higher when I’m out on course, only to ﬁnd it differs when I’m signing the Event Results Book. Not one dog qualiﬁed on this course. Most of the faults were due to bars and contacts, with a few off-courses here and there. I did have one or two dogs that had ﬂawless runs, but were barely over the standard course time. All in all, it was a very fun course to watch. I hope the exhibitors took sections of this home to work on it. I know I did!
