6 Incorrect Double Front Cross This handler could not make it to the best position for the double front. Although the first front cross was done when the dog needed the information, the handler is now forced to travel before executing the second front cross, and that motion cues extension to the dog. This means the second front cross is going to be an unwelcome surprise for the dog. FC1 FC2 7 Remember, when you do a double front cross, 8 the second front cross "Fido!" 10 goes where the first front cross goes-and the first 9 front cross goes on the far side of the dog's path. 7 10 That is what I call "first choice" handling. "Go On!" © karen hocker photography NOTE: Jump #8 is the second jump of the pinwheel configuration. It is also the first jump of the serpentine configuration. 6 Pinwheel Handling: Serpentine This handler is applying all the key elements for success. The green shaded areas are the dog's information zones for the next obstacle. The "Go On" verbal cues jump #8 (second jump of the pinwheel), not #7. The "Fido" cue is given when the dog is in the next information zone, and it cues the dog to come in to #9 (third jump of the pinwheel). This handler will be able to get to serpentine position because of the lane from which she is handling the A-frame. She is paralleling the dog's path (blue handler and dog) until the dog hits the second information zone. There the handler moves laterally. The next point of execution is serp position. For black jump #10, a classic serp, the handler is on landing side of #9 in the red shaded area. For the white #10 jump, the handler is on the takeoff side of #9. Both positions are taken well before the dog arrives at #9. Both #10 jumps are the third jump of a serp. 66 Clean run | July 20
