Through the chemotherapy and
radiation treatments, Merinda
continued to compete in AKC
and NADAC trials with Porter as
motivation to keep going.

We might get frustrated with our dogs, or even at
ourselves, for missed opportunities on the course,
but Merinda has reminded us to appreciate the opportunities we have right now. The chance to run
with our dogs, whether sick or healthy, is a big one.
I know the bond that Merinda and Porter have-
if she didn't have him to keep her going for walks
every afternoon, herding, and agility lessons, and
trials through the months, maybe she wouldn't have
fought so hard. Her laidback personality and positive spin on life is one of the many things I admire
about my friend, and I wish I had even a sliver of
that. Maybe it's just something that comes from battling inner demons. Maybe she was strong before
the cancer, but she's certainly stronger now.

TRADEMARKS

If you have a crate platform in your car,
make sure your spare tire, jack, and lug
wrench are accessible! If not, and you
ever ﬁnd yourself with a ﬂat tire, you'll
need to remove dogs, crates, and the
entire platform before you can change
your tire. It's much easier to have your
"donut tire" and tire changing equipment easily accessible at all times.
(I experienced not having my spare tire
accessible years ago in a snowstorm
and it was a nightmare! The donut
has been accessible since then.) D
