lSac), you can see the handler and dog
performing a lap turn. As the dog is doing the first jump, the handler is facing
the dog and using an outside (left) arm to
draw the dog toward her. The handler is

moving backward and using a low hand
to get the dog's attention. When the dog
is committed to coming past the plane
of the jump, the handler turns her hand
away and to her left which turns the dog's
head away from her. The handler then

moves forward into the dog's path. As the
dog commits to the second jump, a side
change has occurred. The dog's approach
to the jump is perpendicular. As the dog
lifts and is over the bar, his head is facing
the new direction.

Begin with having a cookie in your outside hand (the side the dog will be on at
the completion of the turn). Lead out
and face the dog. As you release him,
move backward and shake your hand
to draw him toward you. As he reaches
you, turn your hand and wrist away so

that the dog's head turns away from you.
When you put so much of the dog's focus on your hand, it is important how
you use your hand. As you draw the dog
toward you, your fingers should be facing upward. As you turn your hand away,
your wrist should also rotate so that
