PHOTOGRAPHY: LEX & EV Mobile Design Studio x Social Outreach Program Having achieved much success for nearly three decades-from receiving Contract magazine's Designer of the Year award to designing for behemoths including Nike and Uber-this San Francisco-based firm is paying it forward in quite an inventive way: Studio O+A's Food for Thought Truck doesn't dish out tacos and cake pops but, rather, offers design services and raises awareness. Young designers from the studio get the opportunity to spark creativity by driving the truck to various California communities- particularly underserved localities-and working on site-specific projects as well as engaging the public in dialogue about how design can be a force for good. "Food for Thought Truck is going to be a two-way street for O+A. We'll be able to take what we learn and bring it back to our interiors practice," says firm co-founder and creator of the concept, Verda Alexander. Design road warriors O+A revamped the vehicle-formerly a maintenance and then gelato truck-by emblazoning it with bold graphics and building in clever elements such as a side wall that pivots upward and outward to form a canopy and a platform that pulls down to become a stage. contract
