PHOTOGRAPHY: SLYWORKS PHOTOGRAPHY OUTSTANDING HISTORIC RENOVATION PROJECT Project Milby High School Library Renovation, Houston ISD Where Houston, Texas Designer Kirksey Architecture The renovation of Milby High School's library retains the 1926 historically significant structure as the heart of the school and wraps 240,000 square feet of new construction around a central courtyard. Now a learning commons, the library also includes dining and multipurpose spaces filled with adaptable furniture for collaboration, as well as low mobile bookshelves that allow for better sight lines. The designers maintained a connection with the old structure by preserving and reusing materials and historic details (such as the terrazzo floors, concrete structure, and clay brick), helping them earn a LEED Silver Certification for Schools.
