Finding my voice in architecture took a long time," says Abigail Clary, director of the health practice at CannonDesign in Chicago. Her journey first began in the seventh grade, when the Chicago native chose a technical drawing class over home economics. "Freaked out because no one got higher than a C," Clary surprised herself with the discovery that she had a knack for the pre-CAD curriculum (she received an A). That empowerment led to architecture electives in high school, and ultimately, degrees in the subject from the University of Colorado Boulder and Illinois Institute of Technology.
