LETTING LOOSE A BIT ON THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF AUTOMOTIVE

Was the Mustang logo a sign?
Ad suggests the outlook
is 'Breaking Good' for
an electric pony car
to be built in Canada

LISTEN CLOSELY TO FORD MOTOR
Co.'s newest Canadian commercial and
you'll hear the spokesman reiterate the
company's pledge to build a variety of

battery-electric vehicles - yes, plural
- in the Great White North.
And if you closely watch the video,
narrated by Bryan Cranston, you clearly see the Mustang logo appear at the
precise moment the " Breaking Bad "
actor says, with emphasis, " in Canada. "
The logo appears to be on the front
fascia of a red Mach-E, which emerges
in its entirety earlier in the 35-second
spot. But there's also a faded image of
a white car of some discernible sort in

the ad, which is filled mainly
with footage of U.S. factories,
new and old.
Ford currently assembles
the battery-electric Mach-E in
Mexico. It hasn't said whether
it will electrify the Mustang, one
of the most iconic sports cars in
history. It's currently built in Flat
Rock, Mich., south of Detroit.
But one has to wonder: Is Cranston
trying to tell us something? - ANC

Fed-up owners look to
a solution that charges
less when they drive less
ACCORDING TO THE CANADIAN
Automobile Association (CAA) and a
report by CTV News, some Ontarians
have had enough of increasing premiums while their vehicles sit idle at
home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result,
many are turning to pay-asyou-go auto
insurance provided by the

President Matthew Turack told CTV.

SOME COLD
COMFORT

Despite recent
rises in fuel costs,
Canada ranks
third in terms of
affordable fill-ups

JUST AS GASOLINE PRICES
spiked in the wake of a surprise cold snap that wreaked
havoc on Texas refineries, a website has suggested
Canadians might not have it
that bad.
CompareTheMarket.com
reports that Canadians had
the third-most affordable
fuel out of 37 countries that
were ranked. Only consumers in the United States and
Australia have lower prices.
The website says the average price for a litre of gasoline in Canada is US $0.80,

compared with US $0.61 in
the United States. It also
found that it costs US $33.60
for a 42-litre fill-up and that
a tank of gasoline represents
1.07 per cent of a Canadian's
average monthly income of
US $3,138.
CompareTheMarket.
com calculated the cost to
fill a tank by taking the average fuel price per litre for
each country from Trading
Economics, a website that
tracks prices.
The price was multiplied
by 42, the number of litres
to fill the tank of an average-size car, in this case a
Ford Fiesta. To calculate the
fill-up cost as a percentage of
monthly earnings, the figure
was then divided by the average monthly income in each
country, as measured by
the World Bank. - ANC

Bieber's
ride finally
arrives

What kind of car does a
celebrity buy when he can
afford just about anything?
IT TOOK THREE YEARS TO MAKE A
Rolls-Royce Wraith look like a car from the
future, but the owner - Canadian singer
Justin Bieber - was clearly gobsmacked when
he got his first look.
In a YouTube video detailing the creation,
Bieber, 27, can be heard rhetorically asking
" Whaaaat? " and saying, " Oh, my goodness " as
he approaches the silver car. Bieber then falls
to his knees with emotion while holding his
head.
With all four wheels covered by skirts -
the front wheels turn left and right within the
body structure - the car resembles a futuristic
Batmobile, spaceship or piece of modern art.
In the video, West Coast Customs CEO Ryan
Friedlinghaus said that the car " looks like it's
from the future. " - ANC

SAY WHAT?

''

Carnival
is here to
disrupt a staid

segment.

In a story at canada.autonews.com,
Sean Yoon, Kia Motors North America CEO,
described the purpose of the automaker's new
minivan. It's dubbed a multipurpose vehicle
and is scheduled to arrive in Canada in the
second quarter.
