the adoption of new

is increasing in Quebec
It could have also qualified as the world's
quietest car show, but the gathering of more than
700 electric vehicles in Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.,
set a Guinness record for sheer numbers.

A GATHERING OF 738 ELECTRIC
vehicles in Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.,
65 kilometres east of Montreal, set
a Guinness world record during
the city's fifth annual Electric
Vehicle Show.
According to news website
Electric Autonomy Canada, the
EVs lined Avenue José-MariaRosell
on Oct. 24 to break the previous
record of 402 vehicles set in
Denmark in 2016.
The event was organized by
Electric Mobility Canada (EMC)
- a nonprofit that promotes EV
adoption domestically - and
Earth Day Canada. EMC CEO
Daniel Breton said the gathering
helped shine a light on rising EV
adoption rates in Canada.
" The reason why we wanted
to organize this event is just to
show that there is a clear evolution
of electric mobility and electric-vehicle
adoption in Quebec and
Canada, " Breton said. " We wanted
to show that things are really evolving,
and more and more people are
adopting electric vehicles. " - ANC

Porsche will eventually become a
classic.
To that end, Porsche Centre
Vancouver has been confirmed as the
fourth Porsche Classic Partner dealership
in Canada.
The program was established in 2014
TORONTO-BASED METROPOLITAN
Commercial Realty has announced plans
to build a " car condo " development on
the city's west side, giving enthusiasts a
place to store multiple vehicles.
According to a story in the Toronto Star,
the first ToyBx development will be 180,000
square feet (16,700 square metres) with
195 units for vehicles spread across three
floors. The units start at 565 square feet (52
square metres) and can store four vehicles
in a stacked arrangement. Two elevators

North America and 78th globally.

Metropolitan
Commercial Realty is
still working out zoning with the city of
Toronto, although it hopes to begin selling
units before the end of the year. The
company is targeting a completion date
of summer 2023. As of press time, pricing

Old-school style gets
a shock under the
hood with new-school
electric conversions
BRITISH COLUMBIA-BASED
Canadian Electric Vehicles and
Webb Motorworks have jointly
developed a drop-in powertrain
for classic cars.
So-called crate engines -
new replacement internal-combustion
engines - have been
around for decades, but crate
electric motors appear to be an
emerging industry.
As reported by Driving.ca,
the two companies brought three
converted classic vehicles to the
2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas
in early November: a 1932 Ford
coupe; a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air
and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro
Z/28. The powertrains consisted
of an electric motor housed in a
custom assembly that's designed
to look like a vintage V-8 engine
and fit in the same location.
The electric crate powertrain
" sets a new bar for EV conversions, "
said Todd Maliteare,
president of Canadian Electric
Vehicles. " We have surged
through the low-voltage and
horsepower barriers of the
past. " Estimated output is 500
horsepower.
" Our new approach rockets
the conversion market to
the performance level expected
from high-end [automaker] electric
vehicles. "
The prototype powertrains
are expected to enter production
in 2022. Prices will range from
US $50,000 to about $70,000.
