Expansion plans come
as a growing number
of automakers adopt
the Tesla standard for
charging connectors
TESLA INC. IS ADDING
Supercharger locations, including
one in Mississauga, Ont., said to be
Canada's largest.
In a July 13 post, the Tesla fan
website Drive Tesla Canada said
the 32-charger station under construction
surpasses the previous
largest, a 24-charger site in Hope,
B.C.
In a post July 19, Drive Tesla
Canada said that Calgary will soon
receive its first Tesla Supercharger
station in the southern part of the
city. It will join another station just
outside the city limits, the website
said.
The number of Tesla chargers
available in Canada takes on added
importance given recent announcements
by a growing number of
automakers - including Ford,
General Motors, Mercedes-Benz,
Nissan, Polestar and Volvo - that
their vehicles would adopt the
Tesla standard for charging connectors.

hydrogen vehicles on the
road in Alberta by 2028
ONE HUNDRED TOYOTA MIRAI
hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles will soon join
the fleet at Edmonton International Airport,
Toyota Canada and the airport recently
announced.
The partnership with hydrogen supplier
Air Products will help set Edmonton
International on its intended path to zero
emissions by 2040, said airport President
Myron Keehn. The Mirai fleet kick-starts
the Edmonton Metropolitan Region's 5,000
Hydrogen Vehicle Challenge, which aims to
put 5,000 hydrogen-powered vehicles on the
road in Alberta by 2028.
" The future is here, and it's being developed
at YEG, " Keehn said in a news release,
referring to the airport's locator code.
Eric Guter, global vice-president of Air
Products, said the company will install an
interim mobile refueling station at the airport
for what will be the first fuel-cell fleet in
Alberta.
Airport officials said the hydrogen initially
will be supplied from reformed methane
but that Air Products is building a $1.6 billion
net-zero hydrogen facility in Edmonton that
will produce hydrogen but also capture 90 per
cent of carbon for permanent storage - called
sequestering - underground. - ANC

DAYS AFTER SIGNING WITH
the Chicago Blackhawks, the
NHL's 2023 No. 1 draft pick
signed a deal with Hyundai
Auto Canada.
Connor Bedard, following
his final season with the
Regina Pats in the Western
Hockey League, will represent
Hyundai through public
appearances, social media,
advertisements and more,
Hyundai announced.
Bedard was the Canadian
Hockey League's top prospect
and top scorer, the David
Branch Player of the Year and
the winner of the NHL's E.J.
McGuire Award of Excellence.
The signing signals the automaker's
commitment to supporting
grassroots hockey, said
Hyundai Canada's director of
marketing, Christine Smith.
" We took our hockey
involvement to the next level
with the NHL and NHLPA partnership
last year. Bringing one
of the game's most elite young
stars on board is both an honour
and a natural next step. "
Hyundai began supporting
hockey more than a decade ago
with Hyundai Hockey Helpers
and in 2022 became the official
automotive supplier to the
NHL and National Hockey
League Players Association,

Réseau Charlevoix is running the Train
de Charlevoix between Montmorency
Falls in Quebec City and Baie-Saint-Paul,
Wednesday to Sunday until Sept. 30,
according to a report by CBC News. The
train began the route in June.
The 120-passenger train uses 50 kilograms
of hydrogen instead of 500 litres
of diesel for the 170-kilometre round
trip, said Serge Harnois, CEO of Harnois
Energy, which supplies the hydrogen.
The fuel is created through electrolysis,
using electricity to split water into hydrogen
and oxygen. Harnois told CBC that
because the process uses Quebec Hydro
electricity - which is 94 per cent water,
five per cent wind and almost completely
decarbonized - the resulting hydrogen is
considered green.
The project began at the behest of
Alstom, the train's manufacturer in
France, which was looking for a route in
North America for testing, said Nancy
Belley, general manager of Réseau
