Indspire is a national
Indigenous charity that invests
in the education of First
Nations, Inuit and Métis people

Grade 12 and beyond. Mazda's
support will emphasize science,
technology, engineering,
arts and math (STEAM).
Pathways to Education helps
children in low-income communities
graduate from high
school and build foundations
for success. Mazda will work
on a program that includes
mentoring and one-on-one support
focused on young people
interested in STEAM programs.

AN IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION OF
fine automobiles - and sneakers - is
headed for auction.
Canadian financier Miles Nadal is
auctioning off 32 vintage automobiles
along with a collection of sports memorabilia
and 99 rare sneakers, according
to auctioneer RM Sotheby's.
The collection is expected to fetch
more $80 million.
The auction will take place May 31
and June 1 at the collection's home, the
17,000-square-foot (1,600-square-metres)
Dare to Dream Automotive Museum in
downtown Toronto.
Rarities in the collection include a
1972 Lamborghini Miura P400, estimated
at $3.7 million to $4.7 million; a 1955
Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, estimated
at $2.1 million to $2.7 million; a 1967
Ferrari 275GTB/4, estimated at $3.8 million
to $4.6 million; and a 2005 Maserati
MC12, estimated at $4.4 million to $5 million.
Other
vehicles include a 1959 Porsche
356 A Carrera 1600 GS, a 1965 Shelby
GT350 and a 2018 McLaren 720S.
Perhaps the pièce de résistance is a
1996 Ferrari F50, valued at $5 million to

Feb. 18 near Peterborough,
Ont., was probably not the
climactic event the vehicle's
occupants were hoping for.
When Ontario Provincial
Police arrived, it's unlikely
that officers were quite prepared
for the story of how
the unidentified vehicle and
unidentified occupants ended
up in such a, ahem, compromising
situation.
According to stories
from multiple media outlets
Feb. 20, the occupants, who
claimed to have swerved to
avoid a deer, were taken to
hospital, where police detected
alcohol on the driver's
breath and elicited the truth
of what actually happened:
The pair were intoxicated
and engaged in romantic
physical activity when the
crash occurred.
A 20-year-old man was
charged with dangerous driving
and blood alcohol content

WHAT DO ULTRASONIC
sensors, hydraulic interlinked
dampers and electric motors without
rare-earth elements have in
common?
They're achievements that
earned Volvo, Range Rover and
BMW innovation awards from the
Automobile Journalists Association
of Canada.
Technology was assessed according
to consumer benefit and appeal,
originality, cost and likely impact
on the market.
Volvo's Safety Suite, which won
best safety innovation, aims " to create
a virtual shield of safety around
the driver and passengers, " said
Volvo Car Canada spokeswoman
Jennifer Okoeguale.
" Every EX90 comes standard
with roof-embedded lidar, eight
cameras, five radars and 16 ultrasonic
sensors to provide a high-resolution,
360-degree real-time view of
the surroundings. "
The combination of sensors provides
vision beyond the range of
human ability " to help prevent
crashes and accidents, " Okoeguale
said.
The Range Rover Sport SV took
home the technical award for its
6D Dynamics suspension system.
It employs " a unique combination
of hydraulic interlinked dampers,
height-adjustable air springs and
pitch control " designed to reduce
pitch and roll to help maintain a
near-level body stance during cornering
and acceleration, Land
Rover said in a news release. The
semi-active system eliminates the
need for anti-roll bars.
BMW was awarded Best Green
Innovation for its fifth-generation
electric drive system, available
in the 2024 BMW iX and i4 as well
as the new i5 and 5 Series plug-in
hybrid. It eliminates rare-earth elements
from the electric motors, and
it is the first system, according to
BMW, to give owners the ability to
repair or replace components in the
drive system. BMW said this should
reduce costs of ownership and help
the electric and electrified vehicles
retain resale value. - ANC
