BrightDrop vans to become Chevrolet models
The Canada-made electric vehicles will be part of a larger
dealership network to attract new fleet customers

GENERAL MOTORS' ELECTRIC
commercial van brand, BrightDrop,
will become part of Chevrolet as the
automaker aims to capitalize on a
larger dealership network and land
new fleet customers.
The reorganization will make
BrightDrop, which GM launched
as a subsidiary in 2021, a nameplate
within the company's highest-volume
brand. The Zevo 400 and 600,
so named for their cargo space in
cubic feet, will be rebranded as the
Chevrolet BrightDrop 400 and 600 for
the 2025 model year, the automaker
said Aug. 29. Both vehicles will
continue to be built at GM's CAMI
assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ont.

To protect the Canadian auto industry,
government puts a 100-per-cent levy
on vehicles built in China

China has chosen to give
itself " an unfair advantage
in the global marketplace,
compromising the security
of our critical industries and
displacing dedicated Canadian
autos and metalworkers, " said
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

say the tariffs will mean fewer
affordable electric vehicles and

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in
Halifax on Aug. 26 the federal government
will impose additional 100-per-cent tariffs on
China-made EVs and hybrids -
a massive increase from
the 6.1-per-cent federal
surtax that imports
from the Asian country previously
faced.

Trudeau told reporters.
The total of 106.1-percent
import tariffs -
which also apply to a
range of electric and
hybrid buses, pickups and
delivery vans - takes
effect Oct. 1. A separate
25-per-cent tariff on steel
and aluminum comes into
play Oct. 15.
The decision follows 30
days of federal consultations
with industry and other
stakeholders that ended
Aug. 1.
In response, China's
Ministry of Commerce said
it is launching an anti-discrimination
investigation
into the tariffs and an
anti-dumping probe into
