FIXED OPS JOURNAL
Get up to speed with next FOJ Forum
E
d Roberts is the defi nition of
ubiquitous.
If you attend in-person fi xed
ops conferences or watch
DAN SHINE

Fixed Ops Journal editor
virtual sessions online, chances are,
you'll see the COO of Bozard FordLincoln
in St. Augustine, Fla., as a
speaker or panelist. Th e reasons are
fairly simple: He is very knowledgeable
about automotive service; he is
innovative and good at what he does;
and is very giving of his time.
Th at's why Roberts will be - after a
two-year absence - part of this year's
Fixed Ops Journal Forum. And while we
hope others will learn something from
Roberts, he will be watching all the
forum sessions to learn from others.
" I appear on panels and speak to learn what others are thinking, " he
says. " We're very agile in putting things into motion. When I hear a
good idea that hasn't been put in motion yet, it gives us a chance to get
out ahead of everyone. "
Th e forum theme this year is " Get Your Service Department Up to
Speed. " We'll present four consecutive hour long sessions on Tuesdays
from Sept. 13 to Oct. 4. Our exclusive lead sponsor, CDK Global, will
present the fi fth session on Oct. 11.
Th e forum will be virtual again and on demand, so you can watch

each session when it's convenient for you. You can register at

Th e topics this year are:
 Service retention: Strategies and tools to keep customers coming back.
 Staffi ng and hiring: How to hire advisers, techs and others and
make them want to stay.
 Parts and collision: How parts departments and body shops are
handling shortages.
 EV readiness: What you need to know and do to get your service
department ready for electric vehicles.
" We don't have all of the answers, " says Roberts, who will be a
panelist for the EV readiness session. " But we are much better together.
So the open forums give us a chance to brainstorm new ideas. "
Dave Foy, vice president of operations at training company
Quantum5, will take part in the customer retention panel during the
forum's opening week. He says the benefi t of participating in events
such as the Fixed Ops Journal Forum is two fold for him.
" First is, I like to give back to the industry that has fed my family for
30-plus years, " he says. " Second is to raise awareness of the new things
Quantum5 is doing. And I always hope to hear either an innovative
thinker or an idea that makes me look at something diff erently. "
We are working to make sure everyone attending the FOJ Forum will
gain insights, be introduced to some innovative thinkers in the industry
and learn new ways to overcome challenges in their department.
" We can all learn from each other, " Roberts says. " We all look at things
diff erently. Th e power of inclusion creates new opportunities. When we
learn new things, a lot of times it leads to new effi ciencies. " 
