People On the Move Atlantic Media promotes Havens and Lauf Atlantic Media Co. has named M. Scott Havens president of The Atlantic. Havens previously served as Atlantic Media Co.’s senior VP-finance and digital operations. In his new role, Havens will be responsible for the Atlantic brand in print, online and live events, as well as for its sibling sites, The Atlantic Wire and The Atlantic Cities. Prior to Havens being promoted, Justin Smith held the dual role of president of Atlantic Media Co. and The Atlantic. Michael Finnegan, currently director-business development and analytics digital, will take on Havens’ corporate finance responsibilities as VP-finance and analytics. Atlantic Media has also promoted Jay Lauf, VP-publisher of The Atlantic, to senior VP-group publisher of Atlantic Media Co. and publisher of Quartz, the company’s business news brand that launched Sept. 24. Chris Batty, the former publisher of Quartz, has left the company. In his expanded role, Lauf will be responsible for corporate sales initiatives, strategic partnerships and advertising revenue for all Atlantic Media brands: The Atlantic and TheAtlantic.com, The Atlantic Wire, The Atlantic Cities, Government Executive, National Journal, Quartz and Think Custom Media. Lauf will remain publisher of The Atlantic’s print and digital products. ALM appoints Litvack to oversee digital media ALM, which provides news and information to the legal and real estate industries, has named Jeffrey Litvack senior VPdigital media, a new position at the company. Litvack was previously COO-general manager of iCircular, a mobile advertising platform for preprints, at the Associated Press. In his new position, he will oversee the development of ALM’s corporate strategy for digital products, with a focus on mobile. Firehouse.com. PEOPLE Callaway named editor in chief of ‘USA Today’ Gannett Co.’s USA Today has named David Callaway editor in chief. Formerly the editor in chief of Dow Jones & Co.’s MarketWatch, Callaway, who started his new role in late July, takes on responsibilities from John Hillkirk, formerly executive editor and now senior editor for investigative journalism and enterprise reporting. Susan Weiss will remain in the role of executive editor-content.
