burned. In addition, the construction
of a PlasticRoad has far less impact on
the environment than traditional infrastructure solutions.
The elements can be reused circularly, thus helping to fulfil the sustainability aims of the companies behind
their creation and contributing to
solving the social problem of plastic
waste.
This concept fits right into the sustainable mission of KWS, which is
100% circular infrastructure in 2040.
Next to the PlasticRoad, the company
is exploring the use of recycled asphalt - 'we already have roads with
100% recycled asphalt top layers,'
said Anne Koudstaal. 'Extending the
lifetime of asphalt roads is a big
theme within the company. Next to
that, sustainable production methods
in our asphalt installations (HERA-System) and the use of 'clean energy' are
important topics on our agenda."
For Wavin, the PlasticRoad also
fits into the strategy of creating
more climate resilient cities. Urbanisation and climate change are posing immense challenges that cities
