For Rapid Granulator AB, the
decision to develop a new piece of
machinery specifi cally to granulate
skeletal waste was an easy one.
The Bredaryd, Sweden-based
company created the GT1100 because
of customer demand, according
to Jim Hoffman, president
of the company's U.S. subsidiary,
Rapid Granulator Inc.
Hoffman was helping out at the
Rapid Granulator booth Oct. 19 as
he spoke about the new product
that features a smaller footprint
and lower cost than other previous
offerings the company had
for skeletal waste.
" We have minimized the footprint.
We have increased the
access to the granulator for handling
the inline skeletal material, "
Hoffman said.
The GT1100 compliments the
company's previous offering for
thermoforming skeletal waste
called ThermoPro, which is a heavier-duty
machine that was adapted
to also manage skeletal waste.
This new unit, Hoffman explained,
comes in with smaller
footprint that makes the machine
easier to integrate at the
end of thermoforming lines. The
low-profi le GT1100 is designed to
be situated under the area where
products are packed once they
come off the thermoforming line.
" We had more and more people
asking for a product that would fi t
under the pack out line and have
the ability to handle the skeletal
waste, " Hoffman said. " You can
still get this under the packaging
line. ... Currently we've developed
it in the 1,100-millimeter
(about 43-inch) width. That's the
fi rst one we've built. Our plans
are to make one wider. "
Creating a specifi c unit dedicated
and designed from the beginning
for skeletal waste means
Rapid Granulator can offer the
GT1100 at about half the price of
the ThermoPro unit. The GT1100
is designed to only handle skeletal
waste, while the ThermoPro
also can manage products that
come off the thermoforming line
that might get discarded.
It took about nine months to
develop the new GT1000, which is
being shown for the fi rst time at
this year's K show.
Rapid Granulator also is unveiling
an updated version of its Raptor
Duo, which combines both
shredding and granulation into
one piece of equipment.
Rapid Granulator said the company's
modular approach allows
for the Raptor Duo to be built in
a variety of confi gurations. The
company offers 36 base confi gurations
to allow for different applications.
Machines come in two
widths - 31.5 and 55 inches, or
800 or 1,350 millimeters - as well
as three different cutting systems.
The new version of the Raptor
Duo also provides easier access
to the granulator compared with
the previous version.
" The Raptor Duo Series is a
shredder and granulator combination.
It has all the benefi ts that
a heavy-duty shredder provides
combined with the granulator. It
enables the production of granules
directly from a huge purging
in just one step, " Anders Martensson,
sales and marketing director
at Rapid Group, said in a statement
issued before the K show.
A third new product
equipment
being
offered by Rapid Granulator is
Rapid Connect, a wireless monitoring
device that provides remote
performance
information.
Rapid Connect uses
sensors that are connected to a
wireless device that can provide
notifi cations in areas including
temperature, vibration and energy
consumption.
Companies can use this information
to determine just how well
a piece of equipment is operating
and whether attention is needed,
Hoffman explained. " Industry 4.0
has been a topic for discussion for
a lot of years, " Hoffman said. " You
have to decide how does that apply
to your piece of equipment. "
Hoffman said this is Rapid Granulator's
fi rst offering connecting
equipment to the internet and the
company and customers will benefi
t from waiting as components
have become smaller and less expensive
over time.
