Domo adding capacity
in China, India

Domo Chemicals GmbH is adding
compounding capacity in India
and is on track to open a plant
in China by the end of next year.
In India, Domo will start production
on a new extrusion line
with 3 kilotonnes of annual capacity
(about 7 million pounds)
in Mumbai in the fi rst quarter of
2022, Ludovic Tonnerre, global
engineering plastics vice president,
said at an Oct. 21 news
event at K 2022.
That production will be aimed
at high-performance
materials,

he added. Production at the site
eventually could be doubled.
In China, Domo will open a
nylon compounding plant with
annual production capacity of
around 110 million pounds in
Zhejiang by the fourth quarter of
2023, Tonnerre said. Commercial
shipments from the site should
begin in the fi rst quarter of 2024,
he added.
Leuna, Germany-based Domo
fi rst announced plans for the Chinese
plant in early 2020. It will
cover almost 37,000 square feet of
fl oor space and will operate multiple
production lines. The plant
will mainly develop
and produce modifi
ed engineering
plastics such as nylons
6 and 6/6 and
high-temperature
nylon.

Domo also is
working with Dutch
technology fi rm Circularise
on digital
product passports
(DPP) that gather
data on a product
and its supply chain
and share it across
the entire value
chain. Offi cials said
that doing so allows
all players, including
consumers, to have a better understanding
of the materials and
products they use and the products'
impact on the environment.
" It's all about the road map to
circularity, " Circularise
founder
Mesbah Sabur said Oct. 21. " We
can use [DPPs] at the end of a
product's life to bring materials
back into the economy. "
At the event, Domo CEO Yves
Bonte said circularity was " the
most important theme " at K 2022.
" We're in a new era - the era of
circularity, " he added.
" Circularity is so fundamental, "
Bonte said. " It allows us to improve
our manufacturing processes
and become more effi cient and
also develop new technologies
and innovations. "
Adopting circularity also allows
Domo and other fi rms to
reduce emissions. " It requires
intense cooperation across the
value chain, but it gives us an
opportunity to shine moving forward, "
Bonte said.
Domo operates nine production
sites worldwide, making nylon
resins under the Technyl brand
name, as well as compounds and
fi bers. The fi rm employs 2,200
and posted sales of €1.9 billion
($1.85 billion) in 2021.
