Covestro and BASF will show customers
the path to sustainability
at Fakuma 2024.
Covestro of Leverkusen will
showcase materials and solutions
for automotive, electrical/electronic,
consumer goods and textile
applications that " make the
world more circular, " offi cials said
in a news release.
They added the fi rm will show
exhibits that contain materials
with mechanically and chemically
recycled content, as well as contents
from biomass - either as
components or attributed through
the mass balance methodology.
" To accelerate circularity and
sustainability, we need to work
closely with our customers and
partners along the value chain on
adopting alternative raw materials,
renewable energy sources and recycling
technologies, " Senior Vice
President Guido Naberfeld said.
Materials included in applications
at the Covestro booth include
polycarbonates, specialty
fi lms and thermoplastic polyurethanes.
Offi cials said these materials
will demonstrate how sustainability
and performance can go
hand in hand across industries.
One key exhibit is an innovative
automotive front-end design that
combines looks and functionality
while also incorporating electronics.
Covestro materials used in
the concept are Makrolon PC and
Makrofol PC fi lm. Offi cials said
the same materials can be used to
make nearly monomaterial electronic
displays, which are ideal
for integration into smart surfaces
in kitchens, vehicles and consumer
electronics.
Covestro aims to become increasingly
circular and climate
neutral, with the goal of operational
climate neutrality (Scopes
1 and 2) by 2035 and full climate
neutrality by 2050, offi cials said.
BASF's 'life cycle' of
sustainable plastics
At BASF in Ludwigshafen, offi -
cials said " the transformation has
only just begun. ... Now it's time
to make the life cycle of plastics
more sustainable. "
At Fakuma, Siemens and BASF
will present a circuit breaker
with components made from biomass-balanced
plastics. Offi cials
said the circuit breaker is the fi rst
electrical safety product to contain
components made from biomass-balanced
plastics. In making
the circuit breaker, fossil resources
are being replaced by biomethane
obtained from agricultural
waste. Bio-based grades of BASF's
Ultramid nylon and Ultradur PBT
are used in the application.
BASF also is using waste
streams that offer post-industrial
recycled material to make several
Elastollan TPU grades with 30-100
percent recycled TPU.
Also available is bio-based Elastollan
TPU, which offi cials said
... to increase
your OEE.
Digitalisation in injection moulding production is already a reality and a necessity
to remain competitive. With the combination of iQ weight control and iQ clamp
control, Weidplas was able to increase the OEE to 86% and reduce the reject
rate by 16% at the same time. You too can benefit from this potential to remain
competitive in the future.
is made with renewably sourced
material featuring identical building
blocks.
For electric vehicles, BASF is
providing engineering plastics
for durable and powerful electric
motors. Offi cials said the fi rm's
Ultrasim simulation and part testing
allows customers to develop
next-generation e-motors while
meeting production targets and
market expectations for sustainability
and energy effi ciency.
