People on the move in plastics
Benjamin Albrecht has taken
over as managing director
of KraussMaff ei Group UK Ltd.,
responsible for UK business
regarding all the three technologies:
injection moulding,
extrusion and reaction process
machinery. Albrecht has
been at KraussMaff ei for over
seven years and held various
positions. He played a key role
in developing the company's
service activities in Europe.
Most recently, as head of area
management Western service
Europe/Africa, he was responsible
for aftersales activities in
both regions.
Borealis has announced the
appointment of two vice presidents
within its polyolefins
business unit. The company has
named Vice President Mobility
and Advanced Products Britta
Warnke as its new vice president
energy, eff ective 1 September
2023. Shanila Baseley,
previously global commercial
director advanced products,
has stepped into Warnke's previous
role to become the new
vice president mobility and advanced
products, also eff ective
1 September 2023.
Frederique van Baarle
has been named president
and CEO of Lanxess Corp.,
taking over from Antonis Papadourakis,
who has retired. The
transition took place 1 October.
Lanxess Corp. is the Americas
business unit of global materials
firm Lanxess AG of Cologne,
Germany.
Papadourakis worked in the
chemicals industry for more
than 35 years, including stints
at Rohm & Haas and Arkema
Group.
Van Baarle joined Lanxess in
2011 and was named a board
member in April. She recently
moved to Pittsburgh, where
Lanxess Corp. is based, marking
the first time in company history
that a board member has been
based outside of Germany.
At Lanxess, van Baarle's roles
have included leading the firm's
High Performance Materials
business unit, which spun off
in a joint venture in April. She
also led a regional engineering
plastics business line at Royal
DSM NV, where she worked for
11 years before joining Lanxess.
KraussMaff ei has tapped Jörg
Stech to take over the management
of KraussMaff ei Injection
Molding Machinery EMEA
(IMM EMEA/Global IMM Technology)
as of 4 October 2023. In
this role, he will be responsible
for the business of the division
with a focus on Europe, as well
as for the global development of
the technology.
After working for several
years in Germany and abroad,
Stech was most recently responsible
for the overall business
of ARGO-HYTOS GmbH,
a leading manufacturer of
components and systems for
the hydraulics industry, as
managing director. Stech has
extensive experience in organizational
development as well
as in production.
Aquapak Polymers Ltd., which
specialises in polymer-based
material technologies that can
deliver both performance and
environmental responsibility
at scale, has appointed Tom
Barrett as chief operating officer.
Barrett will be based at the
firm's main manufacturing site
in Birmingham, UK. He will be
responsible for supporting the
expansion of Aquapak as it develops
its portfolio of products
and their applications, which
provide a planet-friendly alternative
to conventional plastics.
Barrett has a successful track
record in operations having
worked for multi-site businesses
with international supply
chains. He held the director of
operations role at aerospace
business Sigma for 15 years and
was at Rical Group for six years.
He also has experience in the
plastics sector as operations
manager of WHS Plastics Ltd.
based in Birmingham.
Carbios has announced the
strengthening of its leadership
team with the appointment of
Bénédicte Garbil as senior
vice president of corporate affairs
and sustainability. Garbil
oversees three strategic areas:
public aff airs, corporate aff airs
and sustainability.
In her corporate aff airs role,
she supervises communication,
regulatory, project management
and innovation funding
functions. In her sustainability
role, she oversees CSR, QHSE
(quality, health, security and
environment) and LCA functions.
Garbil has also joined the
group's executive committee.
Massimo Reynaudo has
been appointed president and
CEO of UPM-Kymmene Corp.,
eff ective 1 January 2024. Reynaudo
has been with UPM
since 2017. He is currently executive
vice president, UPM
Communication Papers. Prior
to that, he served as senior vice
president of UPM Raflatac from
2017 to 2021. Earlier in his career,
between 1995 and 2017, he
held several senior positions at
Kimberly-Clark Corp.
Reynaudo has a master's
degree in engineering from Politecnico
di Torino and additional
studies in business administration
and management.
Jussi Pesonen, whom Reynaudo
is succeeding, will retire from
UPM after 37 years of service.
A new EU-China liaison off icer
has been appointed to BioICEP
(Bio Innovation of a Circular
Economy for Plastics) the
EU-China research consortium
led by the Technological University
of the Shannon (TUS) aimed
at developing sustainable biobased
alternatives to plastic.
Bor Shin Chee, based at
TUS's Athlone campus, will
build on the work of predecessor
Yuanyuan Chen to enhance
communication and understanding
between European
partners of the flagship project
and the Natural Science Foundation
of China (NSFC).
The role of EU-China liaison
off icer has been instrumental
in building strong relationships
since the project commenced
in February 2020, leading to
the establishment of open and
dynamic channels of communication
that have yielded significant
benefits.
Chee recently completed
a research visit to Shandong
University in China, where she
played a crucial role in developing
sustainable solutions for
plastic circularity.
