In addition to the renovation funds, City Center raised $8 million to contribute to its endowment and enhance programming. But the organization is launching yet another major campaign, which is still in the quiet phase, to supplement that. With the David Koch Theater at Lincoln Center bringing in more dance companies since the departure of the New York City Opera, City Center is facing more competition than ever. Mr. Malouf is looking for his second location in the city. “We’d like to become a small regional chain with locations in Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.,” he said. “What I’m trying to do is open a restaurant that will grow.” The lease for 13-year-old Beacon is up in 2013.
