REPORT Landlords turn on green plumbing Water-saving taps, toilets used to save money and boost LEED ratings BY ANNE FIELD It’s hard for an office building to be greener than the new Bank of America Tower.The 54-story,2.1 million-square-foot LEED Platinum-certified Goliath features everything from a state-of-theart air-filtration system and its own co-generation plant that supplies 65% of the tower’s energy, to something a bit more basic that most people don’t talk about. But when that same outfit is tapped by the city’s largest commercial landlord to consult on a big development project, that firm must be special. That’s what happened last month when SL Green Realty Corp. chose Dallas-based Hines for help on a building it is planning to construct across the street from Grand Central Terminal. “Hines is one of the pre-eminent developers in the world,” said Isaac Zion, co-chief investment officer at SL Green, whose specialty is buying and managing properties, not building them. “We look forward to benefiting from its
