CORPORATE LADDER SIFTING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA WHEN DATASIFT LAUNCHED in November, its chief executive was shocked by the amount of interest the social-data platform received from the financial-services industry. To help lead its newly established New York office, it has tapped Wall Street vet Rob Passarella (below) as its new managing director of finance to lead the company’s financial initiatives and help develop products. “We were absolutely amazed by the wide variety of ways that companies in financial services find to look at social media,” said Chief Executive Rob Bailey. “We view finance as a major opportunity for our company, and think that it’s a sector that requires a deep level of knowledge.” The startup has offices in San Francisco and the U.K., but decided to add one in the Big Apple in order to be closer to finance firms. “I speak their language,” said Mr. Passarella, 45. He joins the startup from Dow Jones, where he was managing director for the institutional markets business. He has also spent almost 15 years working on Wall Street.
